Israeli Military Counters Hezbollah Encroachment in Southern Lebanon Gaps Following Major Tunnel Demolition

Israeli military authorities have disclosed that Hezbollah operatives are actively attempting to establish new military footholds within isolated pockets along the Yellow Line in southern Lebanon. Sources from the Israel Defense Forces Northern Command revealed the development, noting that the Lebanese militant group is seeking to exploit territorial voids where Israeli ground troops had not previously established a physical presence.

According to military officials, these specific sectors within the demarcated Yellow Line were bypassed during earlier stages of the conflict. The decision not to formally send ground forces into these specific enclaves was driven by several tactical assessments, primarily that the zones were already surrounded by Israeli-controlled territory or were judged at the time not to pose an immediate threat to operational security.

Because Israeli ground units never entered these bypassed zones, Hezbollah strategists have identified them as softer, more accessible targets. Seeking to rebuild lost operational capacity, the militant organization has focused its efforts on infiltrating these unattended pockets to construct new tactical positions and restore its operational footprint in southern Lebanon.

The IDF Northern Command indicated that Israeli defense planners had been closely tracking Hezbollah’s infiltration maneuvers for at least five weeks before officially publicizing the information. Military personnel had been actively engaging the emerging threats in real time while maintaining operational secrecy regarding the exact scope of the counter-activities.

The public disclosure of these infiltration attempts appears to coincide with the winding down of extensive combat operations at the Ali al-Taher Ridge. With the major offensive on the ridge largely concluded, Israeli commanders have successfully freed up critical operational resources, allowing the military to shift both surveillance assets and combat power toward reinforcing more vulnerable sectors along the Yellow Line.

Military officials reported that Hezbollah may be targeting dozens of isolated enclaves across the region. Among the specific areas highlighted by Northern Command sources is the village of Al-Mansouri, situated within the Majdal Zoun municipality, where militant operatives have attempted to entrench themselves.

To neutralize these infiltration attempts, the Israeli military has avoided dispatching ground infantry directly into the contested skirmish zones. Instead, the IDF is relying on standoff precision firepower, deploying Israeli Air Force fighter strikes, heavy artillery barrages, and specialized combat engineering units to disrupt and destroy Hezbollah positions from a distance.

The ongoing interdiction campaign reflects an operational strategy designed to deny Hezbollah any territorial resurgence without unnecessarily risking Israeli ground forces in scattered skirmishes. By relying heavily on aerial reconnaissance and synchronized artillery, the IDF aims to systematically suppress militant movements whenever small units attempt to construct defensive works or weapons caches.

The strategic developments on the northern frontier prompted a direct warning from Israeli political leadership. On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cautioned Hezbollah against carrying out further retaliatory strikes, asserting that any escalation would be met with an overwhelming military response.

Netanyahu issued a blunt warning to regional adversaries, stating that those who had not yet learned from recent confrontations and chose to attack Israel would inevitably suffer far heavier blows. The prime minister also characterized the successful neutralization of hostile infrastructure across the Beaufort Ridge and the Ali al-Taher Ridge as a massive strategic victory for Israel's defense establishment.

The military operation at the Ali al-Taher Ridge represented one of the most substantial subterranean battles in southern Lebanon. The site served as Hezbollah’s most vital strategic installation and its final major line of defense in the area, developed and fortified over two decades with extensive support and resources from Iran.

The campaign to conquer and secure the heavily fortified ridge extended over several months, as Israeli troops faced roughly 50 deeply entrenched Hezbollah fighters operating within a sophisticated and sprawling underground tunnel complex.

The successful assault and subsequent destruction of the subterranean stronghold was executed through a joint effort comprising the IDF's 36th Division, the Commando Brigade, and the Yahalom special operations engineering unit. Following extensive combat and engineering operations, Israeli forces captured the facility and systematically dismantled its subterranean architecture.

Hezbollah had attempted to frame its prolonged stand on the ridge as an epic and heroic confrontation, likening the defense to the historic Battle of Karbala in its public messaging. However, Israeli military assessments concluded that the prolonged engagement ended in the total defeat of the entrenched force, with the IDF remarking that the once-formidable fortification beneath the ridge had been reduced to nothing more than a sandbox.

To substantiate the operational outcome, the IDF released extensive documentation from the underground complex on Friday. The declassified material included body-camera footage from Yahalom combat engineers clearing the subterranean passages, internal drone reconnaissance video navigating the complex network, and recorded footage capturing the elimination of two militant operatives.

The destruction of the Ali al-Taher network, paired with ongoing remote strikes against emerging footholds in Al-Mansouri and neighboring sectors, highlights the dual challenge facing Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. While Israel continues to eliminate historical subterranean fortifications, its military remains focused on preempting any attempt by the group to establish a revised operational presence within the gaps of the Yellow Line.
