In a stunning turn of events, a 35-year-old prisoner managed to escape from Duisburg-Hamborn Correctional Facility in western Germany in the early hours of Sunday morning. The prisoner, who had been in custody on suspicion of theft, is still at large as authorities launch a massive manhunt.

North Rhine-Westphalia Justice Minister Benjamin Limbach expressed his frustration over the incident, stating, "Today's escape is absolutely unacceptable. The top priority now is the swift apprehension of the fugitive remand prisoner."
Limbach also emphasized the need to investigate the security breach thoroughly. "We will fully establish how this security breach was possible so that the necessary consequences can be taken immediately based on the findings," he said.
The prisoner had been remanded in custody on suspicion of theft since February 10. In May, he was sentenced to six years in prison for two residential burglaries involving substantial losses. According to judicial sources, he is also accused of stealing valuable jewelry as well as more than €200,000 in cash.
